M45 — the Pleiades, one of the most recognizable star clusters in the night sky.
Located about 440 light-years away in the constellation Taurus, this young open cluster is composed of hot, blue stars formed roughly 100 million years ago. The delicate blue glow surrounding them is not emission, but reflection nebula — interstellar dust reflecting the light of these bright stars.
That soft, wispy structure reveals the interaction between starlight and dust, giving the Pleiades their iconic appearance.
